Eye care in schools
There is great potential to counteract preventable eye diseases. Allergic conjunctivitis, as well as conjunctivitis caused by inadequate hygiene, often already appear in childhood.
Just like cataracts, cross-eyedness is often recognized too late in childhood, which often results in a significant handicap and thus also a stigma in later life.
There are currently no programs to detect such diseases, which are generally easy to treat at an early stage. Check-ups were already carried out in Kenyan schools before Covid, although so far these examinations only detected serious changes.
We are going into schools and kindergardens with modern examination options in order to detect diseases at an early stage and, if necessary, to treat them.
